GARY NOLTON
DIRECTOR / CAMERAMAN
Gary Nolton began his career in his hometown Los Angeles, California, at the prestigious Art Center College of Design, followed by a journey northward to Portland, Oregon, where he opened Nolton Studio. His commercial photographic success for clients nationwide inspired the 1998 launch of his film production company, Limbo Films, where he now concentrates on shooting commercials.
Gary does enjoy the occasional still assignment, particularly when it is married to a spot he's shooting as this assures a visual continuity between print and TV aspects of the same campaign.
Gary has shot print campaigns for an impressive list of agencies including: BBD&O, BP&N, DDB Needham, Dentsu/Tokyo, Foote Cone & Belding, J.Walter Thompson, Leo Burnett, McCann Erikson, Rubin-Postaer and Wieden & Kennedy.
His client list is equally impressive: Adidas, Gatorade, Honda, K2 Skis, Jansport, LL Bean, McDonalds, Men's Journal Magazine, Microsoft, Nike, Precept Golf, SBC, Sony, Sports Illustrated and Windstar Cruises.
Agency art directors applaud his compositions, beautiful lighting and consistently note his ability to work efficiently and maintain a mellow set. Gary also specializes in working with celebrity athletes.
Michael Jordan, Andre Agassi, Martina Navratilova, Shaquille O'Neal, Nick Faldo, Tom Watson, Kevin Garnett, Clyde Drexler, Mia Hamm, David Robinson, Nolan Ryan, Bo Jackson, and Wayne Gretzky have all stood before his camera.
His print work has been recognized by Communication Arts Magazine, The New York Art Directors Club, The London Art Directors Club, Best in the West, and the Portland Rosey Awards. Also of note, Nolton's black & white poster image of Michael Jordan titled "Wings" hangs in the permanent collection of the United States Library of Congress.
